A greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory involves collecting information and data on sources of GHG emissions, calculating GHG emissions and absorption within a specified scope and a particular year, following methods and processes issued by authorized agencies.
According to the law, businesses must conduct GHG inventories based on the following regulations: Law No. 72/2020/QH14 – Law on Environmental Protection dated November 17, 2020; Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP dated January 7, 2022, by the Government on the regulation of GHG emission reduction and ozone layer protection; Decision No. 01/2022/QD-TTg dated January 18, 2022, by the Prime Minister, issuing the list of sectors and facilities required to conduct GHG inventories; Decision No. 01/2023/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister, mandating 1,912 business facilities to carry out GHG inventories. From 2024 onwards, businesses will organize GHG inventories biennially and submit them to the provincial People’s Committee for validation before sending them to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Below is the list of GHG-emitting facilities required to conduct GHG inventories as issued by the Prime Minister: link.
